Significant changes to Reduced data SAP are to be implemented in April 2012 in order for Energy Performance Certificates to be used for the Green Deal. This includes additional data to be collected, more optional details relating to the energy performance of building elements (walls, windows, etc.) and building services (e.g. solar hot water systems) and a revised format for the EPC including more options for improvement recommendations. All Domestic Energy Assessors will be required to complete an 8-10 hour training course and pass a multiple-choice examination in order to retain their accreditation. We understand that the exam will be available from mid-February.

Full details of the requirements and the costs of the examinations are still to be confirmed. However, we will be offering training courses in a number of locations and in-house for organisations with a number of DEAs from early February onwards.

On-line learning materials now available

We now have a ‘Moodle’ based site to provide on-line learning materials to support our Certificate in Energy Advice (Home) training course. These are designed to supplement the three one day training workshops and support candidates to prepare for the multiple-choice examinations and to complete their portfolios. BREEAM Award

BREEAM, the world’s foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings, recognised the high achievement and contribution that their Assessors make to the scheme through the inaugural BREEAM Assessor Awards.

Alan has just been presented with the Award for the Highest Percentage of Certified Assessments for ‘Excellent’ Rated Buildings (over the last 5 years) . This award recognises consistently high scoring developments as almost two thirds of the assessments carried out by Alan have scored a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.

The ceremony took place in London on 24 May 2011 as part of BREEAM’s Annual Conference and 21^st birthday celebrations.

Code for Sustainable Homes Update 2010

The Code for Sustainable Homes Update 2010 has been released as of 11 November 2010. The guide can be downloaded from the Communities and Local Government website We are preparing course material and will soon be running courses on the updated Code. Further details will be released shortly.

Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor Training

This 3 day training course (with an exam 4 weeks later) is designed to provide the qualification to anyone wanting to assess new housing against the Code for Sustainable Homes.
